Have you ever noticed the many lion heads that can be seen around Trentadue Winerys’ Estate and wondered the significance? They are representative of our Founder, Leo Trentadue, who had a reputation for being innovative and was among the very first to plant new vines in Sonoma County since the days of Prohibition. There are over a dozen lion heads hidden around the Estate that our guests love to try and find! How many will you be able to spot?

Leo Trentadue had a great understanding of the importance of growing specific grape varieties. He planted half-acre blocks to eight different varietals in 1974 and these were the varietals that would eventually make incredible world class wines from our Estate. Today we have just under 11 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon planted on the Estate and in 2014 these vines produced just 28 tons of grapes.

With Leo's passing in January 2014, the decision was made to produce a special wine that would commemorate Leo's accomplishments and embody the pride that Leo had, calling it “Leo's Pride.” This Commemorative Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was made in honor of Leo and is very rare and incredibly limited, with only 196 cases, that will most certainly sell out. The conceptional Lion’s Head, linked to the many lion sculptures on the Estate, can also be found on this label as well. It is currently a special wine that we are initially releasing only to our Trentadue Wine Club members, however a portion of the wine will be aged in our cellars to be released in the future.

This phenomenal wine is made of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Petite Verdot and 4% Merlot. After one year in 100% new French Oak, our winemakers hand selected just eight of the best barrels for this wine to be later aged for 28 months. It is a wine that is rich, delicious and has a dense, beautiful, ruby-purple color. You may also sense abundant aromas of blueberries, blackberries and black licorice, with a hint of herbs and ripe olive. Our long aging process in new oak barrels contributes to light aromas of vanilla and cocoa dust. The mouth feel is dense and lush, with balanced acidity and soft tannins. We recommend enjoying this wine now or ageing it for 5-7 years!
