It’s our favorite time of the year in Sonoma as harvest is in full swing. Our early mornings are spent picking grapes before the sunrise, and late nights are whiled away as we sort and crush our newest additions.
We are thrilled to report straight from our fantastic winemaker Miro that we have great wine coming….and plenty of it. Supply was strong in 2018 and was matched with particularly good-natured weather. Rains in the spring brought about cooler temperatures than usual in the early part of our growing season. The summer cut us a break without any unusually long heat waves and nice cool evenings. The result was a lovely, mild growing season that has continued right into Harvest!
What does this mean for your favorite Trentadue wines?
We’re glad you asked.
Miro is predicting a particularly delicious year for Cabernet, and really, reds in general. The cool spring and summer evenings will lend a gracious acidity to your favorite reds and a full-bodied balance brought about by long, even daytime temperatures.
Are we there yet?
Harvest at the Trentadue Estate is about 90% complete, with a select few blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and Montepulciano still developing perfect ripeness on the vines.
But what should I drink now?
We will look forward to raising a glass of the first taste of 2018 in the Spring with the releases of Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc. Make sure you are on the mailing list for first access to these wines!
In the meantime, we are featuring two special releases exclusively available direct from the winery. These are the perfect wines to pull the cork on as the weather cools down and we welcome more rich, hearty meals to the table.
2016 Montepulciano – Alexander Valley Estate
With only 138 cases produced, this is a wine that you want to buy by the case. Deeply colored, with intense blueberry and plum aromas, solid tannins and firm acidity. Montepulciano, an important grape variety from Central Italy, was planted on our Estate thirteen years ago but it was only 4 rows of vines. We liked it so much that 6 years ago we planted additional 1.5 acres of the certified Italian clone VCR 10. The 2016 is our second harvest from the young vines. The wine is deeply colored, with intense blueberry and plum aromas, solid tannins and firm acidity.
2016 Carignane – Alexander Valley Estate
In California Carignane was grown state wide and it was the base for many wonderful wines in the early days of winemaking. Today a few rare old vineyards such as Trentadue Estate are still standing and proudly producing delicious wines. Our 2016 Carignane exhibits abundant aromas and flavors of Bing cherries, dark plums and wild berries. The mouth feel supports medium body with fresh acidity and a long fruity finish. Only 121 cases were produced, so pick up a few to pair perfectly with holiday roasted meats, savory vegetable dishes and a variety of rustic cheeses.
Sound like you need a couple of cases of your own?
These wines are only available direct from the winery. If you can’t make a trip to come see us, please call us at 707-433-3104 to place an order in time for the holidays.
We are looking forward to the fruits of our labor with another fantastic Harvest here in Sonoma County. Cheers to another year, and many more to come from your Trentadue family.
