2011 Trentadue Zinfandel Port

Sold Out

This is a vintage style port from the classic California Zinfandel grape. The grapes were harvested at an average 25.7 Brix, from our smallest Zinfandel block# 312 and few designated rows in Block# 304, which I left to ripen a bit more for making the port. The higher sugar produced more natural alcohol and therefore the brandy addition was very small. After the first rack the port was aged in 10% new and the rest older barrels for 16 months. The finish is mouth-coating with a medium to heavy body carrying lingering flavors of sweet raspberry and blackberry. Dark and massively fruity without being overripe, this port will age gracefully for at least a decade. Cheers! Miro Tcholakov - Winemaker

Tasting Notes

The 2011 harvest was the fourth in a row of unually cool weather years in Northern California. The challenge to growers and winemakers was presented by three reain events in October. We somehow managed to harvest all of our Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and most of our Merlot before the rain and luckily the grapes were sufficiently ripe to make wine that is consistent with our high standards. The relatively cool overall season produced wines with brighter fruit aromas, higher acid levels and intensly colored wines in general.
