2011 Cuvee Evelyna Our 2011 Cuvee Evelyna is a tribute to our matriarch, Evelyn Trentadue, and our third edition of this classic Bordeaux style blend. This is a "Meritage" type blend with intense dark cherry aromas-contribution of the Merlot, followed by deeper dark red fruit aromas of blueberry and plums delivered by the Cabernet. With more air the wines shows a complex yet still in developing stage aromas and flavors of cocoa , cinnamon, leather and maple.

Tasting Notes

The 2011 harvest was the fourth in a row of unusually cool weather years in Northern California. The challenge to growers and winemakers was presented by three rain events in October. We were lucky to get all of our Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and most of our Merlot picked before the rain hit.

Our 2011 Cuvee Evelyna is a tribute to our Matriarch, Evelyn Trentadue, and the third edition of this classic Bordeaux style blend. The cool growing season of 2011 produced wine with bright fruit and firm acidity destined to age well. Only “the Drips” went into this wine, which is a unique process of literally collecting small volumes of wine, drop by drop overnight of wine filtering through a large amount of grapes skins. To put it in perspective, from the entire 2011 vintage, we only produced 238 cases using this method.

This a “Meritage” type blend has intense dark cherry aromas, largely contributed by the Merlot. Deeper dark red fruit aromas of blueberry and plum follow. With more air, the wine shows a complex yet still developing stage of aromas and flavors of cocoa, leather, cinnamon and maple. The mouth feel is medium to full with a lush and long finish.
